Rochester/ Victor, New York

Not twenty minutes’ southeast is a town called Victor. This is the best kept shopping secret that I have for Northern U.S. Usually the exchange is high (about thirty percent) but for some reason there is usually a sale, plus you get a discount in some stores (extra ten percent) for being Canadian and the taxes are low. If you are ever in the area, make sure you go to Eastview Mall.

Most people would never think to visit Rochester and I admit I had not given it a thought, however it is the city in which TBF is hosted and I have been attending since 2010. TBF is short for Teen Book Festival and is held on location at Nazareth College every year. It is because of this event that I visit Rochester on a yearly basis. Now the Festival is only a day long and Rochester is approximately three hours away from Toronto so I could easily return home but I always try to spend the night.  It is a combination of Boston meets Kleinberg and is lush in greenery.

After all that shopping, you are bound to work up an appetite which is convenient as my favourite restaurant is also at this location. Biaggi’s Restorante Italiano will have your taste buds in a frenzy. I have never been disappointed in the food, service or portion sizes.
